Crossrail GIS data request

Request ID: FOI-0479-2122
Date published: 08 July 2021

You asked

To whom it may concern, I would like to request the latest GIS data (shp format) for Crossrail Stations, Tracks, Safeguarding Limits and Areas of Surface Interest.

We answered

TfL Ref: 0479-2122

Thank you for your request received by us on 10 June 2021 asking for information about Crossrail GIS data.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked for the latest GIS data (shp format) for Crossrail Stations, Tracks, Safeguarding Limits and Areas of Surface Interest. You clarified that for stations you only require a point at the centre of the entity and for tracks you’d like the tracks not the route as it appears on the open data portal (which unfortunately has not been working correctly).  So, instead of one single line at the centre of the real tracks, you’d like to see 2 lines. Finally, you confirmed that British National Grid co-ordinates system is an acceptable format.

Please find attached a zip file containing the track and stations data, in British National Grid and as shapefiles, as requested.

Please also find attached a zip file containing the Areas of Surface Interests and Safeguarding Limits as held in the GIS, also in shapefiles and in British National Grid as requested.

The issues with the open data portal have now been fixed so you can also download the data you require from there: https://opendata-crossrail.hub.arcgis.com/.

Please note that the safeguarding plans form part of the Safeguarding Directions that belong to the Secretary of State (SoS) for Transport (not Crossrail) and the GIS data is managed and issued by the Department for Transport (DfT) on behalf of the SoS. The GIS data was issued by the DfT to Local Authorities and other official Public Organisations for the purposes of ‘consultation’ for planning related matters (as required by the Directions) where the route alignment impacted the stated borough.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
