FOI request detail

Traffic data from traffic counter at Marylebone road

Request ID: FOI-0478-2425
Date published: 28 May 2024

You asked

I am a research student currently undertaking air quality measurements at the Marylebone road air quality site. I would like to obtain traffic data from the following traffic counters: 27236, 18454, 57537. Could this be provided at hourly and 15 min resolution (if possible)? I would also like to know any details about vehicle breakdown/vehicle length. Many thanks.

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-0478-2425

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 10th May 2024 asking for traffic count data.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

I am a research student currently undertaking air quality measurements at the Marylebone road  air quality site. I would like to obtain traffic data from the following traffic counters: 27236, 18454, 57537. Could this be provided at hourly and 15 min resolution (if possible)? I would also like to know any details about vehicle breakdown/vehicle length.”

And;

“I realised in my previous request that I didn't specify the date I needed traffic data from - I will only need data from the 09/02/2024 - present.”
I am afraid that TfL does not hold the requested information, as we do not have any traffic counters labelled: 27236, 18454, 57537 along Marylebone Road.
As shown in the map below, we have an ATC (227) and a Sensor (40) along this stretch of road. The raw ATC data only provides vehicle class where Class is defined by vehicle length: Class 1 refers to <5.2m, Class 2 is 5.2m – 12.0m and Class 3 is >12.0m. This ATC was not operational between 9th and 24th Feb 2024. We also have a Sensor near the junction of Park Crescent which provides a full class breakdown and was operational for the whole period being requested. If this data would be of interest please let me know and we can consider that as a new request.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely,
