I understand TfL rent individual parking spots near stations. I would like to know - how spaces are rented - how much TfL is spending on average for each parking spot? - some general reasons why TfL rents these spaces

Our ref: FOI-0474-2425/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 9 May 2024 asking for information about TfL spending on renting parking spaces near stations.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

- how spaces are rented.
There are some locations where it has been necessary for TfL to source parking spaces on third party land. Spaces are acquired on commercial terms either by way of a lease or parking licence.

- how much TfL is spending on average for each parking spot?
Across all London zones where TfL specifically pays for parking on third party land, TfL pays an average rate of £2,150 per annum per space.

- some general reasons why TfL rents these spaces.
This is at strategic locations on our network where it would be difficult for staff to get to or from their booking on point via public transport. This is typically when the start or end of shift is very early or very late, such as during engineering hours. This requirement also includes operational response units, British Transport Police and MET Police. There is a formal governance process in place to ensure best value is achieved and that the requirement has been tested against reasonable alternatives.

Please let me know if this is not the information you are looking for. If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
