Our ref: FOI-0471-2425

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 10 May 2024 asking for bus occupancy data.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 Regulations and our information access policy.

I can confirm that we do hold the information you require. However, in accordance with the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply the information you have requested as it is subject to a statutory exemption to the right of access to information, under Section 22 of the Act. We are planning to publish the bus demand and occupancy data on the TfL website (http://crowding.data.tfl.gov.uk/) which will contain the occupancy levels for the bus routes 456, 191, 313 and 279. The bus occupancy data that is to be published will contain the representative autumn 2023 period for all standard bus routes on the TfL bus network, which includes a breakdown by route, direction, stop and time period. Whilst we don’t have a definite date of publication, we expect this to be available within 1-2 months.

This exemption is subject to a public interest test, which requires us to assess whether the public interest in applying the exemption outweighs the public interest in disclosure. In this instance, it is considered that the public interest favours the publication of this information, in context and according to the pre-determined schedule, rather than in response to your request, to ensure the information is provided accurately and in an accessible manner.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely,
