Thank you for your request received by us on 15 May 2019 asking for information about the type of light sources used on the London Underground and Overground networks.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked:

What type of fluorescent tubes (i.e. Manufacturer, length, wattage) are used on the Bakerloo, Picadilli, Central, Waterloo and City, Northern, Jubilee, Victoria, S7 and S8 and Overground rolling stock?

And what is the overall lighting power demand per car for each of the rolling stock named above?

I can advise that we use various manufactures for London Underground rolling stock such as Philips and Osram. The lengths used in the saloons are two, four and five foot corresponding to 18Watts, 36Watts and 58Watts respectively. On average, a typical London Underground carriage will consume around one kilowatt power for all the lighting features in the saloons

Unfortunately, we do not hold this information in relation to London Overground rolling stock as this is held by manufacture Bombardier. If you would like to contact them directly please see the following link to their website: https://www.bombardier.com/en/contacts/contact-us-form.html

Please note that as a private company, Bombardier is not legally obliged to respond under the Freedom of information Act legislation.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
