TfL Ref: 0462-2223

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 16 May 2022 asking for information about bus route 241.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked further information on the statement made that, ‘I can confirm that the bus route 241 will be extended to the Royal Wharf development once road layout changes have been successfully completed by the developer Ballymore.’ You asked: What changes are required? Also who is financing the changes?

The developer had originally installed speed humps within Royal Wharf which were not suitable. However, the developer has now changed the speed humps into speed cushions and it is likely that this will now enable buses to be run within Royal Wharf, however a route test with a bus will need to be carried out first to confirm this. The route test will also confirm what other highway amendments will be required – we cannot provide a comprehensive list of what may be required as the route test has not yet been carried out, but is likely to consist of road markings to show where the bus will stop as well as associated bus stop flags.

Our present understanding is that the cost of the highway changes will be borne by the developer with the exception of TfL’s bus stop flags. The cost of the bus service changes will initially be funded by a Section 106 financial contribution from the developer secured as part of the planning application.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
