FOI request detail

London Underground

Request ID: FOI-0457-1920
Date published: 05 June 2019

You asked

1) I understand the Piccadilly Line on train announcements are available as a FOI request. Whilst I am not after a copy of them, I understand from correspondence on "what do they know" website, they are only supplied in a non standard pcc format. Is there any plans to make these available in another audio format such as WAV or MP3. 2) Interested to know how many train operators are employed at each depot on London Underground. How many at each depot for night tube as well. 3) Several years ago TFL Ran an external campaign for night tube drivers. Is there any plans to run further external train operator recruitment campaigns. IF this is likely to happen do you know when you expect to advertise Train Operators externally? 4) Does LU have a policy of not advertising jobs externally like through an agreement with trade unions etc or is there a reason these roles are mainly filled internally. 5) Also, Service Control, Line Controller jobs such as those based in the Northern Line Control at Highgate and in the new Control at Hammersmith for sub surface lines, do you ever advertise line controller or service control roles externally and do you have any plans to advertise such vacancies in the near future. 6) are signal operators roles ever advertised externally.

TfL Ref: FOI-0457-1920

Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 12 May 2019.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked for:

  1.  I understand the Piccadilly Line on train announcements are available as a FOI request. Whilst I am not after a copy of them, I understand from correspondence on "what do they know" website, they are only supplied in a non standard pcc format. Is there any plans to make these available in another audio format such as WAV or MP3.

We provide the Piccadilly line announcements as we hold them in PCC format . We haven’t found a way of converting them into a different format.

  2.  Interested to know how many train operators are employed at each depot on London Underground. How many at each depot for night tube as well.

    Please find the information attached.

  3.  Several years ago TFL Ran an external campaign for night tube drivers. Is there any plans to run further external train operator recruitment campaigns. IF this is likely to happen do you know when you expect to advertise Train Operators externally?

Yes, if we have exhausted internal lists and demands. No dates are decided at this stage.

  4.  Does LU have a policy of not advertising jobs externally like through an agreement with trade unions etc or is there a reason these roles are mainly filled internally.

We promote job opportunities within TfL to give our staff the best opportunity for career progression before advertising externally. We advertise externally when the internal process has been exhausted.

  5.  Also, Service Control, Line Controller jobs such as those based in the Northern Line Control at Highgate and in the new Control at Hammersmith for sub surface lines, do you ever advertise line controller or service control roles externally and do you have any plans to advertise such vacancies in the near future.

We have advertised externally for Service Controllers in the past.  We currently do not have any plans to advertise in the near future.

  6.  are signal operators roles ever advertised externally.

As with answer four, we only advertise externally when the internal process has been exhausted.  To the best of our knowledge, we have not advertised externally for Signal Operators.
