Stability Calculations for the Railway cutting

You asked

As the engineer, I assume that you are concern with the contractor's programme of this works ? This programme of works appears to be a complete farce because the following. I was informed that as from the 1st March the works effectively should have been finished as the temporary stopping restriction should have been lifted and there should have been no construction vehicles having access to the site using mount pleasant road . Then 11 weeks later, the construction vehicles were still having access to the site, using mount pleasant road, she informs me that the contractor has now asked for further 15 weeks required .Is this some sort of "hospital" job where the contractor comes on to site when its convenient for him ? Having his construction vehicles driving down mount pleasant road is certainly not convenient for the respective residents and its in fact an unwelcome experience. Besides a copy of the Stability Calculations for the Railway cutting CO56 CTS1b chigwell to grange hill, I would like to have a copy of the current programme and have a site visit to see what works are being carried. One of the residents is an architect and, if its convenient , I expect he would to join the site visit as well as looking at the working drawings.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 19 May 2017 asking for information about the programme of works and the stability calculations for the railway cutting CO56 CTS1b Chigwell to Grange Hill. I sincerely apologise for the delay in replying.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

Please find attached a copy of the construction programme and a copy of the stability calculations for the railway cutting as requested.

We identified an issue during a routine inspection of this part of the track, and we commissioned a detailed programme of works to improve the stability of the banks of the cutting, which involve the installation of a discrete retaining wall at the lower slope, a slope re-profile, and drainage at the crest of the cutting. Whilst the works are ongoing we have carried out temporary works and installed a protective barrier system to ensure that the track continues to pose no safety issues and to allow services to continue to run. The works have been designed and implementation commenced so as to have no detrimental effect to the stability of the existing structure. The works will be inspected once a month in the 1st year after the completion and then at intervals thereafter.

As I understand it, our community relations manager has been in contact with you and will be assisting with the other matters you raised in your email.
