Our ref: FOI-0407-2324/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 10 May 2023 asking for information about Red route flooding data.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold some of the information you require.

Please find attached two spreadsheets which show there have been 143 records of drainage/ponding/flooding works carried out on Camberwell New Road from 2016 to May 2023.  The reports are split as there was a change of contractors and reporting system in April 2021.

In the majority of gully cleansing activities and removal of ponding, Chapter 8 Traffic Management will be in place in order to safely carry out these works. This includes closing of lanes, coning and cordoning and any or all could be in place depending on the severity of the situation.  Lane closures are implemented for safety reasons while the standing water is cleared and in some major incidents roads are closed.

At this location,  it has been mostly cones which been in place as a mitigative measure until the drainage contractors can attend the site.  The flooding has been occurring in the bus lane but there is enough space in the main carriageway for general traffic and buses to navigate.

We are unable to provide you with the costs for these works, as the costs are included in our lump sum maintenance and not broken down into specific works.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
