Thank you for your email received by us on 8 May 2019 asking for information about Penalty Charge Notices (PCN’s) issued to buses for stopping in yellow box junctions.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked for:

PCN’s issued to busses stopping in yellow box junctions for the last year

Transport for London (TfL) may issue a PCN to any vehicle observed contravening a traffic restriction on the red route network. Buses are not exempt from yellow box junction restrictions.

When we record a contravention we do not record the type of vehicle committing the contravention so we do not hold information on the number of PCNs we have issued to buses for yellow box contraventions.

Bus services in London are run by private operators who have been awarded a contract by TfL. Information about bus operating companies can be found on our website at: https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/bus-fleet-data-and-audits.

While we can not specifically say how many PCNs were issued to buses, we do hold information on the number of PCNs issued to our bus operating companies. Between 1 January and 31 December 2018, we issued 749 PCNs to bus operating companies whose vehicles were observed stopping in yellow boxes on our network.
