You asked

I've got questions in regards to the Heritage AEC Routemasters on Route 15H. When did TfL amended the 15H service to weekends only? What is the purpose of amending the service to weekends only? When is the Route 15H due to have a tender renewal? Are there any plans to withdraw the 15H completely?

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-0388-1920

Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 6 May 2019.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked for:

When did TfL amended the 15H service to weekends only?

From 2 March 2019, heritage buses on route 15H operate only on bank holidays and weekends, from the last Saturday in March until the last weekend in September.

Please see our website for more information https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/buses/permanent-bus-changes?intcmp=47904#on-this-page-6

What is the purpose of amending the service to weekends only?

Please find a full explanation on our website at http://content.tfl.gov.uk/changes-to-route-15-heritage-buses.pdf

The changes give a net saving of £800,000 per year which we will be able to reinvest into our network. There is not a viable case to maintain a full year seven day a week service on this route.

In accordance with section 21 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply you with a copy of the requested information as it is already accessible to you elsewhere.

When is the Route 15H due to have a tender renewal?

The current contract for route 15H covers operations until 27 September 2020.  A new contract will be required for operations from 27 March  2021.

Are there any plans to withdraw the 15H completely?

We have no current plans to withdraw the heritage service on route 15H completely.
