Hello, is it possible to share the amount of energy (kWh) that is consumed directly by the public transports per mode. For example how much energy is consumed for the traction of the London underground?

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 9 May 2023 asking for information about energy consumption according to mode of transport.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked for:
 
the amount of energy (kWh) that is consumed directly by the public transports per mode. For example how much energy is consumed for the traction of the London underground?
 
Please see the following data provided as maximum vales in kilowatt hours for the financial year of 2022/23. This covers energy usage recorded either by TfL or by our suppliers; the latter of which are classified as scope 3 emissions, as they are indirect emissions that TfL are not directly responsible for, such as IT infrastructure and supplier energy use. They are included in the table below to provide a fuller picture of energy usage throughout the organisation, as each area plays a crucial role in the running of TfL’s services.
