You asked

Why is the box junction at this junction so long, ie extending past the turn right access into Chrisp St and has no benefit to egress from Chrisp St. The traffic egressing Chrisp St can only turn left. How much has been received in fines (PCNs) for contravention of the box junction rules at this junction in the last 12 months compared to the box junction at the junction East India Dock Road and Upper North Street.

Thank you for your email received on 20 May asking for information about the box junction East India Road/ Chrisp Street.

 

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our Information Access Policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require. You asked:

 

Why is the box junction at this junction so long, ie extending past the turn right access into Chrisp St and has no benefit to egress from Chrisp St. The traffic egressing Chrisp St can only turn left.

 

The yellow box junction at the junction of East India Dock Road and Chrisp Street is marked to protect the area of the junction where there has shown to be non compliance on the road. TfL is satisfied that the yellow box junction complies with the requirements of the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.

 

How much has been received in fines (PCNs) for contravention of the box junction rules at this junction in the last 12 months compared to the box junction at the junction East India Dock Road and Upper North Street.

 

There has been £215,096 paid against 3,851 Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) issued at this location from 1 April 2016 – 31 March 2017, compared to £2,226 paid against 37 PCNs issued at the location of East India Dock Road/Upper North Street over the same period of time.
