Request ID: FOI-0366-2021
Date published: 30 June 2020

You asked

On May 15th 2020, a map of "Emerging London Streetspace Plan for Cycle Routes" was published by TFL (http://content.tfl.gov.uk/emerging-streetspace-for-london-plan-for-cycle-routes.pdf). This map includes an updated cycle plan for Finchley Road. I'd like a summary of the planning of this route, and importantly the timeline of it's planned implementation. This route will greatly benefit cyclists in the area, and it is important to know when it will be in place. I look forward to hearing from you within 20 days.

The Mayor’s Sreetspace for London plan aims to create more space on streets so people can walk or cycle, making it easier to observe social distancing guidelines and easing pressure on public transport.

A scheme has already been introduced to widen the footway on Finchley Road outside Finchley Road tube station and the O2 centre. Further temporary schemes have been proposed on Finchley Road, including additional locations for footway widening and a segregated cycling corridor from Hendon Way to Marylebone Road. These proposals have not yet been developed and remain subject to funding. A decision on whether to take them forward would depend on a successful design process demonstrating that the schemes are viable and would deliver the desired benefits.

On a more general matter, please note that the Government has announced a series of measures to tackle the coronavirus. It is essential for London that we continue to provide a safe transport network for essential journeys.

In current circumstances, we are not able to answer FOI requests readily and we ask that you please do not make a request to us at present.

Answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. In any event, please note that our response time will be affected by the current situation.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely,
