to ascertain the funding source/contractor for the blanket stopoil.org advertising on the underground
Request ID: FOI-0333-2223 Date published: 16 May 2022
You asked
yesterday i travelled from ravenscourt park to victoria on the district line. the entire train was coveted in adverts for stopoil.org. an organisation engaged in blatant acts of criminal damage to critical infrastructure.
the adverts were blanketing the train. every second ad, on both sides, all through the train. this must have cost thousands.
my request:
the fact TFL are prepared to facilitate the promotion of such acts is not only abhorrent, it’s aiding a criminal enterprise.
MY REQUEST
i would like to know who paid for such a huge campaign. i would like to know how much TFL were paid for it, and i would like to know who, at TFL, approved this campaign.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 14 May 2022 asking for information about advertising on London Underground.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy.
I can confirm that we do not hold the information you require – this was a result of flyposting, and not an approved advertising campaign. There was therefore no payment received, or approval for this ‘campaign’. We received reports that the flyposting was located on the District line. Our advertising partner, Global, found and removed multiple adverts from the District line and instructed any further sightings of the flyposting to be removed upon sight by their operatives.
Our Press Office have prepared the following statement in response to the flyposting incident:
A TfL spokesperson said: "These adverts are not authorised by TfL or our advertising partner Global. It is fly posting and we have instructed our contractors to remove any of these posters found on our network immediately.
If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
