Request ID: FOI-0328-2324 Date published: 31 May 2023
You asked
In advance of the funeral of the Queen, and the coronation of the King, temporary directional signs appeared in various locations around central London, for example for the Lying in State Queue; to major stations; or for open-air screening areas.
These bore a resemblance to TfL's bus diversion signage, but with a monochrome colour scheme.
Were TfL responsible for these signs?
If so, are you able to publish:
a) when the signage scheme was devised
b) when the signs were produced
c) the design guidelines for the signs.
Many thanks.

Question: Were TfL responsible for these signs? Answer: TfL was not responsible for any of the signage elements for the recent Coronation of Their Majesties. Rather, this was the responsibility of the Department of Media, Culture and Sport. TfL produced the final artwork for the signage for the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the other associated events. Question: If so, are you able to publish:
a) when the signage scheme was devised Answer: Work on the design for signage for the State Funeral started in 2017 and was continually evolving (as part of collaborative working with partners) up until September 2022. b) when the signs were produced
Answer: TfL does not hold this information. Responsibility for production of the signage was with the various partners (such as the Cabinet Office, The Department for Media, Culture and Sport, and the Greater London Authority) who managed the event management company, LS Events.
c) the design guidelines for the signs. Answer: TfL does not hold the requested information. Due to the nature of the event, no formal design standards were produced. If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.
