You asked
Follow-on from FOI-0050-2324:
The commissioners statement specifically referred to the MPS as did my question. Yet your answer only refers to the City of London Police only and seems to ignore the MPS. Why?
I’m staggered that you don’t have any breakdown of the 443,609 figure that the Commissioner claimed. Could you therefore tell me how he knew those figures and let me have any documentation either internal or from the MPS that advised him of them and or how otherwise the data was supplied. In addition as it would appear, to be provided to him monthly please provide this for all months, or periods, in 22/23 financial year.
Whilst I accept you may not have the answers to questions 2 and 4 I simply can’t believe you don’t have at least a partial answer (in relation to at least TfL vehicles) to question 3. Frankly it would be a very irresponsible employer who did not know this in relation to its own vehicles driven by its own staff.

Thank you for your request received by us on 28 April 2023 asking for further information about enforcement of speeding offences. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require. The data used and referred to (“443,609 speeding offences etc.”) is from the Vision Zero Enforcement Dashboard (VZED) – this includes Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and City of London Police data which is supplied to us monthly. This is provided to us via agreed information sharing with our policing partners and we present this in the VZED. These figures for correct for the last financial year up to December 2022. In our original response when referring to the City of London, the City itself has its own police force so information for the City of London is available. However, the MPS police the other 32 London boroughs and currently we cannot offer data lower than overall MPS-wide figures as we do not possess the information in this way currently as supplied by the MPS. As stated previously, we are working on the data to enable this to be possible, and presented in the VZED with data from April 2023 onwards – we anticipate this will be available within the next few months. How many were to drivers and or vehicles operated by or on behalf of TfL? Speed is the single biggest contributory factor in fatal collisions in London and it is vital that TfL leads by example, through the use of the safest vehicles and ensuring that staff using its vehicles demonstrate exemplary driving behaviours at all times. In the last financial year TfL received 86 notices, all of which were transferred to the individual drivers, as per the legislation. We have a broad programme of engagement with staff on speeding and are working to embed new tools, such as Intelligent Speed Assistance, to ensure our vehicles are being driven safely. The enforcement of speeding fines is done by the relevant authority, for first offences this usually involves a speed awareness course or a fine and endorsements on their licence. We will continue to check licences frequently to monitor the accumulation of endorsement points. Bus services are operated by individual bus operators, so any tickets issued would be to the bus operators so TfL would not hold this information. If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me. Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
