Our ref: FOI-0292-2021/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 29 May 2020 asking for any internal reports, surveys, investigation or risk assessment as to the condition of the ground and tracks.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

Our previous response provided information solely on the section of the Northern line which affects you, between Chalk Farm and Belsize Park (N046) – on the Edgware branch. In the last three years, we have not received any other complaints for that section.

As you have now asked for reports for other complaints within a one mile radius, this includes a different section of the Northern line (Camden Town to Kentish Town) - the High Barnet branch, as well as sections of the Jubilee and Metropolitan lines.

In the approximate one mile radius of your property we have received 32 complaints of noise relating to all of these lines. Please find attached copies of the reports following investigations into these complaints. We do not hold reports for each individual complaint as we do not need to take noise measurements at each individual property where we receive a complaint, as most residents in one localised area are usually affected by the same issue, and therefore we only need to visit a small number of properties within that area.

Please note that in accordance with TfL’s obligations under Data Protection legislation some personal data has been removed from these reports, as required by section 40(2) of the FOI Act. This is because disclosure of this personal data which would identify residents and their properties would be a breach of the legislation, specifically the first principle which requires all processing of personal data to be fair and lawful. It would not be fair to disclose this personal information when the individuals have no expectation it would be disclosed and TfL has not satisfied one of the conditions which would make the processing ‘fair’.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please note, the Government has announced a series of measures to tackle the coronavirus. It is essential for London, that we continue to provide a safe transport network for essential journeys.

In current circumstances, we are not able to answer FOI requests readily and we ask that you please do not make a request to us at present.

Answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. In any event, please note that our response time will be affected by the current situation.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
