Please see the following FOI requests below regarding the role of Trains Manager.
1.) Is there ‘Grade Progression’ for the Trains Manager role?
2.) Is there Performance Related Pay for Trains Managers and if so how does this work – is there any guidance on this?
3.) In terms of Current Trains Managers, could you confirm the number of employees:
• At the bottom of the Trains Manager pay band
• In between the bottom and top of the Trains Manager pay band
• At the top of the Trains Manager pay band

Thank you for your request of 10th May 2021 asking for information about the Trains Manager role at TfL.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
I can confirm that we hold the information you require. Your questions are answered in turn below:
Question 1: Is there ‘Grade Progression’ for the Trains Manager role?
Answer: No.
Question 2: Is there Performance Related Pay for Trains Managers and if so how does this work – is there any guidance on this?
Answer: Yes – part Performance Related Pay (PRP). Irrespective of performance rating, employees are eligible to receive the London Underground negotiated pay award. Guidance on PRP can be found on Platform here. Part PRP also entitles these employees to receive the enhanced PRP award given for performance ratings (4 or 5), should they achieve them. Note that due to the pandemic performance ratings were suspended for the year 2020/21.
Question 3: In terms of Current Trains Managers, could you confirm the number of employees:
At the bottom of the Trains Manager pay band?
Answer: 92.
In between the bottom and top of the Trains Manager pay band?
Answer: 128.
At the top of the Trains Manager pay band?
Answer: 1.
