Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 2 May 2018 asking for information about the Central Cordon Survey.

Your request has been processed in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I  can confirm we do hold some of the information you requested. You asked:

Could you please provide me with data showing the number of vehicles (Thousands of vehicles) crossing the Central Cordon Screenline for years 2014 to 2017 inclusive. For your reference such data has been previously published in "Table 2 – Combined direction 24 hour traffic crossing the Central Cordon by vehicle type, 1974 to 2010", TAC Traffic Note 3 – TfL Cordon and Screenline Surveys 1971-2011, TfL, March 2012.

The Central cordon survey is part of our annual strategic monitoring programme. As part of this programme we carry out classified counts on 3 cordons: Central, Inner and Outer, and 4 screenlines: Thames, Northern, Radial and Peripheral. Summary counts from the survey programme are published in the annual Travel in London Report: http://content.tfl.gov.uk/travel-in-london-report-10.pdf. We have produced an update of the summary table you are specifically requesting below:

This currently runs to 2016 which is the latest data we have published. 2017 data is currently being validated and we expect to publish it by August 2018.

In accordance with the FOI Act, TfL is not obliged to supply you with the information you have requested as it is subject to a statutory exemption to the right of access to information, under Section 22 of the Act. In this instance the exemption has been applied as the information you have requested is intended for future publication.

This exemption is subject to a public interest test, which requires us to assess whether the public interest in applying the exemption outweighs the public interest in disclosure. In this instance, it is considered that the public interest favours the publication of this information, in context and according to the pre-determined schedule, rather than in response to your request, to ensure the information is provided accurately and in an accessible manner.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
