TfL Ref: FOI-0261-2425
Thank you for your request which we received on 22 April 2024, asking for information about the new 24 stock tube for the Piccadilly line.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked:
The first question is since the new train is longer than the current train how will they fit in the stations and what type of modification work is going to be done so that they can fit in the stations and my second question is what month are they expected to start testing on the Piccadilly line which I head would be in the summer of 2024.
In many cases the platform length at our stations is already sufficient to accommodate the new trains. However, there are a few that will require some minor changes to platform end barriers, existing station equipment and signage to facilitate the new trains. These changes will be delivered by our infrastructure teams alongside the platform works needed to provide accessibility for the new trains.
Testing will commence later this summer.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely
