Would you please advise me how many buses and other vehicles, utilised by TfL, do not meet the ULEZ emissions standards and whether these will be withdrawn from service prior to the scheme being fully implemented on August 29th?

We answered

Our Ref:      FOI-0248-2324

Thank you for your request received on 24 April 2023 asking for information about Ultra-low Emission Zone (ULEZ) compliance of TfL vehicles.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require. You asked:

Would you please advise me how many buses and other vehicles, utilised by TfL, do not meet the ULEZ emissions standards and whether these will be withdrawn from service prior to the scheme being fully implemented on August 29th?

There are approximately 1000 vehicles supporting the operation of London Underground, London Overground, London Buses, Trams, the Elizabeth Line, and all of our other services. All of the cars in the TfL fleet are ULEZ compliant.

There are, however, two vans which do not comply with ULEZ requirements, both owned by the London Transport Museum. These are used rarely to move items between the Museum Depot at Acton and the Museum at Covent Garden, and for towing exhibition equipment to events. We are aiming to replace these with ULEZ compliant vans when the lease expires in the near future.

We also have an emergency pod, which is a demountable body located on a lorry chassis, that is not ULEZ compliant. This vehicle is only used in emergencies once or twice per year. We are looking at the possibility of using another vehicle to remount the pod, as it is not cost effective to replace it due to the small number of times it is used. We are hoping to have all vehicles in our fleet compliant by the end of the year.

If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
