We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-0248-2122

Thank you for your request of 5th May 2021 asking for information about the number of homeworkers at TfL that reside outside of the UK.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

Under the Freedom of Information ACT, can you please provide me with details of how many TfL permanent employees who work from home and have a TfL payrolls residence address is outside of United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.”

TfL does not support overseas working for a variety of reasons - mainly in relation to tax, social security contributions, employment law obligations, data protection and health and safety liabilities. This has been communicated clearly though line management communication and by our HR team when individual queries are raised.

We do not recognise the term “payrolls residence”. Therefore, the following information is based on the “permanent residence” of staff as recorded on our central HR reporting system. As of 5th May 2021 (the date of your request) there were 7 permanent staff that had a foreign residence listed as their permanent address. None of these are classed as ‘home-workers’ and none are working from home abroad. This is out of around 28,000 staff employed by TfL.

If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.

If you are considering submitting a further FOI request please think carefully about whether the request is essential at this current time, as answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. Where requests are made, please note that our response time may be impacted by the current situation.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely,
