Request ID: FOI-0232-2324 Date published: 23 May 2023
You asked
I wish to enquire about the speed limit on A40 Western Ave. between Northolt/Target Roundabout and Perivale/Argyle Rd Junction.
Previously in 2017 this section of road was 50mph, and it was reduced due to central reservation damage.
I have noticed the central reservation works are in progress. Please can you confirm whether the 50mph speed limit will be re-instated, and if not, why will the full speed limit not be reinstated? Why was it reduced in the first place?
We answered
TfL Ref: FOI-0232-2324
Thank you for your request which we received on 24 April 2023, asking for information about a speed limit on the A40 Western Avenue, between Northolt/Target Roundabout and Perivale/Argyle Road Junction.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.
A 40mph speed limit was introduced in part to facilitate the replacement of the central vehicle restraint system. These works are nearing completion and TfL is currently evaluating next steps and whether the speed limit will revert back to 50mph. It is unfortunately too soon to provide a definitive answer and we would hope to be able to do so as soon as the works are completed and a further review has been carried out.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely
