Greenwich Power Station
Request ID: FOI-0220-2122
Date published: 13 May 2021
You asked
I would like to receive up-to-date information on the power output of Greenwich Power Station, which I believe is owned by TfL for use for the London Underground.
The same request was raised and accepted in Sept 2014. Reference: FOI-0999-1415
If possible, it would be very interesting to know 1) the electricity generated per month
2) the number of times per month that the turbines have been switched on
3) TFL'S plans for future use of the Greenwich Power Station according to the new ambition for a zero-carbon, 100% renewable energy using railway by 2030?
We answered
TfL Ref: FOI-0220-2122
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 2nd May 2021 asking for information about Greenwich Power Station.

Please see the attached spreadsheet showing the electricity generated per month, which has been updated to the end of 2020. The turbines are turned on once per month on average for up to 2 hours. We are currently undertaking a review of what the future of the power station may be in providing the emergency back-up power supply to the railway. The timescales are as yet uncertain.
