You asked

Thank you for getting back to me. Please can you share the rules with me, so I can go back to TFL and the bus operator.

We answered

Our ref: FOI-0214-2425

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 18 April 2024 asking for information about buses idling.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access policy.

I can confirm that we do hold the information you require. The rules have not changed since our last response:

Idling is a changeover point for the drivers to handover buses between shifts. We provide instructions to all London bus drivers on engine idling at bus stands as part of our Big Red Book.  However, these requirements do not apply to changeovers due to the engine needing to stay on to ensure customers have heating and lighting and power is maintained to the radio/ticketing equipment.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely,
