Request ID: FOI-0181-2122
Date published: 11 May 2021
You asked
Good Afternoon, I have been tasked with putting together a market report on behalf of one of my clients regarding electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities within the UK. I’d be very grateful if you could assist by responding to the following; Does your organisation currently have EV charging facilities? If yes, how many do you have and which speeds are these? What type of payment system, if any, is used? What are your future plans for providing charging facilities for electric vehicles?
We answered
TfL Ref 0181-2122
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 27 April 2021 asking for information about electric vehicle charging points.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
The information you asked for is available on our website using the following link: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/electric-vehicles-and-rapid-charging
In accordance with section 21 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply you with a copy of the requested information as it is already accessible to you elsewhere.
However, for ease we have answered your specific questions as follows:
Does your organisation currently have EV charging facilities? Yes
If yes, how many do you have and which speeds are these? 310 Rapid chargers have been delivered through our rapid charging project. We also have a joint project between TfL, the GLA and boroughs – Go Ultra Low City Scheme (GULCS). Through that we have installed over 2,500 on-street slow to fast chargers for residents and car clubs. More information on GULCS can be found at https://www.londoncouncils.gov.uk/our-key-themes/transport/roads/gulcs.
What type of payment system, if any, is used? All of our rapid chargers have a Pay as You Go (PAYG) contactless card feature installed, but customers can also use specific operator subscriptions. Payment for the residential lamp column chargers is through the supplier app, as it is not yet possible to install a PAYG feature.
What are your future plans for providing charging facilities for electric vehicles?
We are currently exploring opportunities for TfL to support future roll out of electric vehicle infrastructure to help meet growing demand and encourage the switch to electric. This is all part of our plans to achieve a zero carbon city and transport system by 2030, enhancing air quality and supporting the governments ten point plan for a green recovery.
If you are considering submitting a further FOI request please think carefully about whether the request is essential at this current time, as answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. Where requests are made, please note that our response time may be impacted by the current situation.
