TfL Ref: 0166-1920
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 15 April 2019 asking for information about Walthamstow Bus Station.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy.
Unfortunately we do not hold an inspection report from 2018 that you have requested.
The Bus Station Manager of Walthamstow Bus Station reported to TfL that the welded joints of the arms and seating had worn and caused parts of the structure to move. To mitigate the risk of trapped fingers and snagged clothing when people used the seats the defective seating was taken out of use by taping up the seating.
To further remove the risk of injury the defective seating was fully removed while costs were found to enable them to be replaced.
Many of the non-defective parts from the removed seating were utilised to restore as many units as possible. We then set about replacing the “missing units” with perch seats. Perch seats are used across London at many of shelters and stations and so do not have to be bespoke made allowing us to replace any inevitable future damage quicker than before.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
