TfL Ref: 0152-1819

Thank you for your email received by us on 18 April 2018 asking for information about London Underground’s Metropolitan line employees.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked for:

the headcount of the staff dedicated to supporting the metropolitan line and the total annual cost of these staff as at April 2016 vs April 2018

In 2016 there were 1,067 staff with a full time equivalent value of 1,035.11 employees.

Total payroll costs including on costs and overtime amounted to £42,729,967.38; inclusive of include pension payments, National Insurance contributions, overtime payments and other allowances, such as Season Ticket Loan reimbursements and so on.

Total Basic Pay costs were £29,191,188.99

In 2018 there are 1,315 staff with a full time equivalent value of 1,258.14

Total payroll costs including on costs and overtime are £52,583,700.88; again this includes include pension payments, National Insurance contributions, overtime payments and other allowances, such as Season Ticket Loan reimbursements and so on.

Total Basic Pay cost are £35,950,349.34

Please note that due to the re-organisation of station areas in Mid-2016, figures for 2018 could include stations that were not part of Metropolitan line management structures in 2016. Also, Asset Management Areas are not clearly defined as supporting one line or another except in the Fleet maintenance area. Consequently, the above figures include train, station, service control and all support staff under the Metropolitan Line as well as Fleet Metropolitan employees.

As station, track and signals maintenance staff can be assigned to multiple lines, employees in these areas are not included in the above figures provided.
