Thank you for your request received on 4 April 2019 asking for information about TfL’s Public Works Loan Board applications.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:

I am writing to request information from you regarding your Local Authority's Public Works Loan Board applications. Please can you specify, for each loan, what the purpose of the loan was.

The loans we receive from the Public Works Loan Board formed part of our planned borrowing programme for 2018/19. Prudent borrowing is an important source of financing for TfL and supports our capital investment programme. We do not generally allocate our capital revenues (such as borrowing) to specific projects – these revenues are used as a whole to fund our capital programme. The loans will therefore contribute to funding our capital programme, which includes a wide range of projects such as capacity and station upgrades on the Underground and rail networks, as well as other improvement schemes across our network. The projects included in our capital programme are outlined in our Budget and Business Plan documents, which can be found at https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/business-plan.
