Thank you for your request received by us on 22 April 2022 asking for information about the speed of buses on the E3 route.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked for:

the speed of buses on the E3 route. In particular I request that you share data on the speed of buses travelling along this road. Specifically:-

  • Ave (mean) speed, maximum speed, median speed of E3 buses along the whole length of the route.
  •
  • Ave (mean) speed, maximum speed, median speed of E3 buses along Burlington Lane and Sutton Court Road South.
  •
  • Description of what speed data you gather on buses along this route
  •
  • Your policy on monitoring the speed of buses, and on the conduct of drivers in this regard.

Please see the attached spreadsheet providing running times and average actual bus speeds for the E3 bus route.

Information is shown for the whole length of each direction and by stop segments along Sutton Court Road and Burlington Lane, as requested. Data is presented daily between January and April 2022 (excluding public holidays) and summarised by day type at the end of each worksheet.

We can advise that due to the nature of bus schedules, scheduled times are rounded to the nearest minute. As a result of such rounding, some scheduled run times may be shown as ‘0’ meaning the scheduled run time between stops is less than 30 seconds. Actual run times are recorded by the second and never rounded.

Tables show minimum, maximum and average run times and speeds between selected stops. Average run times and speeds are calculated across all recorded trips running between selected stops on the particular day and time period. Journey numbers are shown in a separate column.

Minimum and maximum run times and speeds show the lowest and highest values respectively, which may be recorded by one trip out of many trips.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
