TfL Ref: FOI-0134-2223
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 21st April 2022 asking for information about Rotherhithe Tunnel 52G contraventions.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“Can I please modify my request and ask for information about the number of contravention 52G in 2021 and the amount paid by the drivers in the Rotherhithe Tunnel?”.
I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
Note that the Rotherhithe Tunnel was built in 1908 and was not designed to cope with modern levels of traffic. These restrictions help to ensure that road users can continue to use the tunnel safely while we work on plans for the tunnel's future.
In 2021 we issued 119,162 Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) for contraventions of the Rotherhithe tunnel restrictions. The amount received in payments towards these PCNs for 2021 was £8,337,648.
If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely,
