Request ID: FOI-0127-2223 Date published: 16 May 2022
You asked
Under the Freedom of Information Act, please provide information as to why both 30mph maximum speed limit signs within the Catford gyratory (A205 & A21), namely Brownhill Road SE6 (travelling eastbound) and the southbound contra-flow bus-lane (A21) were changed last year to 20mph without first checking the legal speed limit of the roads?
The legal speed limit is 30 on both sections, as confirmed by TfL in an email to me dated 12/04/2022.
Therefore, please advise when the 20 signage is going to be replaced by – and therefore corrected to – 30?

The 20mph was first introduced in the Rushey Green/Catford Gyratory area on 18 September 2020 during social distancing schemes and then an experimental Order was introduced in March 2022.
You are correct that Catford Gyratory including Brownhill Road should currently be 30mph We have raised an order for the signs to be changed and the works should be completed by the end of May.
