You asked
Hello to whom it may concern,
I was just curious on if there are any plans to reopen the ticket hall and/or platform of the closed station "King's Cross Thameslink". If not, why? If so, what are the future plan?
We answered
Our ref: FOI-0124-2324 Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 10 April 2023 asking for information about the disused platforms and ticket hall of "King's Cross Thameslink". Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Unfortunately we do not hold the information you have requested – there are no current proposals to reopen the station.
By way of background, Network Rail still owns the station however London Underground Ltd has a lease agreement with Network Rail. Since the ticket hall and subway at Pentonville Road has been closed, the area has fallen into disrepair and the decision was made not to open the entrance. This was initially on a temporary basis until there was a decision on the long term future of the entrance .to bring the area up to modern standards. During the planning process for replacement of a bridge structure in the local area, a search for a suitable location identified the Pentonville Road entrance as suitable for offices and accommodation for the large team that will be working in the area. There were very few other options, so the decision was made to allow the use of the space for this project and not open the station entrance. The Network Rail bridge works are scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2024.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
