Request ID: FOI-0120-2425 Date published: 01 May 2024
You asked
Please can you answer the following for all of your trains?
1) Do your trains have quiet carriages? If so which coach letter/number?
2) How many priority seats in each train? Where are these located please?
3) For each train- is it driver only operated or manually/ automatically operated?
4) Is there an emergency intercom button for passengers to contact the driver?
5) Are your trains fitted with hearing loops?
6) Do your trains have quiet carriages? If so where please?
I appreciate this is time consuming and I apologise for this but this information would really help in my personal accessibility study. Please include train diagrams to answer the above if this is easier.
Thank you very much for your help.
Clarification received 17/04/2024: Thank you for your reply. I would love to know the above for all train services you operate but I appreciate this wouldn't be possible at this time.
I am therefore happy to do this in stages if this is suitable please?
For example if in this request I could ask for the DLR and the Overground and then in the next request we could cover Elizabeth Line and the Underground?
Thank you again for your time and your help. I really appreciate it.

Thank you for your request of 9th April 2024 – as clarified on 17th April 2024 – asking for information about train interiors on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and the London Overground.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
I can confirm that we hold the information you require. Your questions are answered in turn below: Question 1) Do your trains have quiet carriages? If so which coach letter/number? Answers: DLR = No. London Overground = No. Question 2) How many priority seats in each train? Where are these located please? Answers: DLR = 8 seats, all located closest to the doorways, but the seating patterns are slightly different on each vehicle type. London Overground = Seats closest to the doors, eight per coach. Question 3) For each train- is it driver only operated or manually/ automatically operated? Answers: DLR = Both methods of operation are used depending on the situation. Generally the DLR operates in automatic mode. London Overground = driver only operation. Question 4) Is there an emergency intercom button for passengers to contact the driver? Answers: DLR = There is an on-train passenger alarm which will stop the train at the next station and alert the control centre staff who are able to then contact the Passenger Service Agent (PSA) on board. The alarm will cause the train to stop at the next station and not restart until the PSA attends to reset it. On B2007 stock trains there is ability for passengers to speak from the train passenger help point to the control room. On the new B23 stock the train help point will connect the passenger to be able to speak to both the PSA and control centre. There is also an on-platform help point which connects passengers to speak to the control centre. London Overground = Yes. Question 5) Are your trains fitted with hearing loops? Answers: DLR = Not on the existing fleet, the new B23 stock do have them. London Overground = No. Question 6) Do your trains have quiet carriages? If so where please? Answers: DLR = No. London Overground = No. If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.
