1. How many kms of new bus lanes were implemented and funded in the Financial year 2023/2024. Could you please break these down into a) TLRN and b) Borough Roads 2. Thank you for your request which we received on 11 April 2024.

 

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked: 

 

1. How many kms of new bus lanes were implemented and funded in the Financial year 2023/2024. Could you please break these down into a) TLRN and b) Borough Roads. 2. Could you also provide a breakdown of individual scheme details with lengths of new bus lanes in each case.

 

Please see the attached document that summarises bus lanes delivered in 2023/24. Schemes in green are on borough roads and schemes in red on the Transport for London Road Network (TLRN).

 

3.How many kms of bus lanes were removed in 2023/2024 on a) TLRN b) Borough Roads funded by TfL. Again with a breakdown.

 

Unfortunately, to answer this part of your request would exceed the ‘appropriate limit’ of £450 set by the Freedom of Information (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004. Under section 12 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to comply with requests if we estimate that the cost of determining whether we hold the information, locating and retrieving it and extracting it from other information would exceed the appropriate limit. In this instance, we estimate that the time required to answer your request would exceed 18 hours which, at £25 per hour (the rate stipulated by the Regulations), exceeds the ‘appropriate limit’.


The requested information is not centrally recorded, so we would have to review all Traffic Road Orders (TROs) to locate and collate this information. We would need to identify all projects and changes to road layouts for the period requested, and then identify if these involved any bus lane removal. Please note that in some cases, whilst bus lanes may be removed from a specific location, they may be introduced at other locations meaning that the total length of bus lanes may actually increase. Whilst these removals are likely to be minimal, we do not record this information in a way which allows us to report on the specific information you are seeking, without undertaking a manual task of reviewing a significant volume of data. 

 

To help bring the cost of responding to your requests within the £450 limit, you may wish to consider refining your requests to concentrate on matters which are important to you. For example, we are more likely to be able to answer your request if it was focused on specific roads or locations.
