Digital screen advertising on London Underground - energy consumption

Request ID: FOI-0113-1920
Date published: 13 May 2019

You asked

What is the overall electricity consumption (in kilowatt hours) per year of digital screen and projection advertising across the London Underground network?

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-0113-1920

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 10th April 2019 asking for information about digital screen advertising on the London Underground.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

What is the overall electricity consumption (in kilowatt hours) per year of digital screen and projection advertising across the London Underground network?”.

TfL does not hold an overall figure for energy consumption from these advertising screens. It is not possible, therefore, to give you an annual figure.

However, that said, we are able to give the power consumption of each type of screen and how many of that screen we have. There are approximately 350 x D6 Screens in use at any one time with a consumption of 1.6A/368W. There are also 52 x D12 Screens with a consumption of 3.1A/713W. I will provide you with further information about DEPs (escalator panels) and DX3’s (projectors) once I have been able to source it.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely,

David Wells
