Request ID: FOI-0098-1920
Date published: 30 April 2019
You asked
When the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) comes into effect in April 2019, please confirm how many of TfL’s polluting buses will be hit by the £100 charge per day? What percentage of TfL’s overall active bus fleet do these buses account for, please?
Also, how many bus journeys are made along Streatham High Road on an average weekday, and do you carry out any pollution tracking along the route? If you do track pollution levels please share these in a simple format.

Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 8 April 2019.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we hold some of the information you require. You asked:

We do not expect any of our contracted buses to incur the charge as those passing through the ULEZ have been raised to the required emission standards. Around 2,800 out of our 9,000 buses go into this part of London and have been turned ultra clean in readiness.
Also, how many bus journeys are made along Streatham High Road on an average weekday, and do you carry out any pollution tracking along the route? If you do track pollution levels please share these in a simple format.
On Streatham High Road, between Green Lane and Streatham Hill Station, there is an average of 35,000 boarders and 34,000 alighters per day. This is for an average school weekday in the first half of 2019.
Air pollution data is collected by the London boroughs, as they have responsibility for monitoring this. Please contact the London Borough of Lambeth for this information.
