Hi there, Does TFL collect data on the number of Uber passengers who have been deactivated from their platform? Does a private operator have to justify their actions to any body? Many thanks, Tom

We answered

Our ref: FOI-0091-2425/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 8 April 2024 asking for information about private hire operator licensing.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. You asked:

Does TFL collect data on the number of Uber passengers who have been deactivated from their platform? Does a private operator have to justify their actions to anybody?

Transport for London licenses and regulates the taxi and private hire vehicles services in London to ensure passenger safety.

The passenger booking records that licensed private hire operators are required to record and make available to Transport for London (TfL) are outlined on page 19 of our Private Hire Operator’s Handbook.

A private hire operator is not required to inform if it deactivates a passenger from its platform.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
