We answered

TfL Ref: 0083-1819

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 9 April 2018 asking for information about the speed camera in Mitcham ((Speed Curb GL147).

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked:

What date were the two speed cameras on Mitcham Road installed?  - 29th April 2015

Do the speed cameras give off a single flash as a warning or do they double flash and that's it you have a fine? –   The camera will take 3 images per offence (2 zoom shots and 1 wide angle) so there will be 3 flashes. There is no warning flash.

To date, how much revenue have the cameras brought in through fines issued? – The objective of speed cameras is to reduce road danger through the elimination of speeding. The ultimate aim therefore is to have no occurrences of cameras being activated, meaning the speed limit is being adhered to. None of the Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) revenue generated from safety cameras goes to TfL or the local boroughs. All revenue goes directly to the Central Government so this information is not known.

Could you list what the revenue generated from fines has been spent on to date? – As mentioned above all fine income goes to Central Government / the Treasury, so we do not hold this information.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
