TfL Ref: FOI-0028-2223
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 5th April 2022 asking for information about weight restrictions in the Rotherhithe Tunnel.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“How many fines per day are TFL issuing for infringement of weight restrictions in the Rotherhithe Tunnel?”
I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
Note that the Rotherhithe Tunnel was built in 1908 and was not designed to cope with modern levels of traffic. The restrictions in place help to ensure that road users can continue to use the tunnel safely while we work on plans for the tunnel's future. Over the last 12 months the average number of Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) issued for contraventions of the Rotherhithe tunnel restrictions was 326.6 a day.
If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely,
