FOI request detail

Air quality

Request ID: FOI-0025-2425
Date published: 19 April 2024

You asked

Has the air quality in the expanded Ulez area improved since August 2023?

We answered

TfL Ref: EIR-0025-2425

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 3rd April 2024 asking for information about the ULEZ scheme.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

Has the air quality in the expanded Ulez area improved since August 2023?”.

The data we use to monitor air quality in London is publicly available via the following sites:

https://www.londonair.org.uk/LondonAir/Default.aspx

https://www.airqualityengland.co.uk/

https://www.breathelondon.org/

The decision to expand ULEZ London-wide in August 2023 has seen a reduction in older, more polluting vehicles seen driving in the zone. More information on this can be seen in the London-wide ULEZ first month report - see here. The report does not cover the impacts of the scheme on air pollutant emissions and concentrations, as a longer period of time is needed to accurately measure this. An assessment of measured pollutant concentrations, including roadside NO2, will be included as part of the ULEZ six-month report - which will allow sufficient time for robust monitoring - due to be published later this year.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely,
