Thank you for your email received by us on 3 April 2017 asking for information about Night Tube complaints.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our Information Access Policy. I can confirm we hold the information you require. You asked:
Since the launch of Night Tube on London Underground. Please can you supply me with the following information;
A line by line summary of complaints about the noise pollution which may or may not have affected residents sleeping patterns.
We completely understand how important it is to minimise noise for our neighbours and we are doing everything possible to do so. We have a team of engineers that is dedicated to reducing Tube noise. They carried out a huge programme of preparatory work ahead of the launch of the Night Tube, replacing and grinding over 500km of track and introducing new resilient track fastenings and shock absorbent fixings, which help reduce the sound when the trains run over them.
We encourage anyone worried about noise to get in touch so we can come and investigate and work out how we can mitigate noise most effectively.
Please find below a table of complaints by line about noise from Night Tube trains (total 228, covering all complaints since the launch of Night Tube: a period that has seen over 2 million journeys). These figures are correct as of 24 April 2017.
Night Tube station/line | Number of complaints |
Central line (total) | 58 |
Jubilee line (total) | 11 |
Northern line (total) | 73 |
Victoria line (total) | 59 |
Piccadilly line (total) | 27 |
