A40 Westway works
We need to close parts of the A40 Westway to carry out essential safety work.
To minimise disruption to surrounding roads, work will only take place at weekends and we will only close the A40 Westway in one direction at a time. The road will open normally the rest of the week.
Closures will take place between Friday 8 November 2024 and Monday 19 May 2025.
From Friday 8 November to Monday 25 November
Eastbound closure every weekend - from 22:00 Friday until 05:00 Monday
- The A40 Westway will be closed eastbound from the A3320 Westway roundabout to the A40 Marylebone flyover
- The road will open normally the rest of the week (05:00 Monday - 22:00 Friday)
From Friday 29 November to Thursday 2 January
No road closures are planned. Traffic will run as normal.
From Friday 3 January 2025 to Monday 17 February 2025
Eastbound closure every weekend - from 22:00 Friday until 05:00 Monday
- The A40 Westway will be closed eastbound from the A3320 Westway roundabout to the A40 Marylebone flyover
- The road will open normally the rest of the week (05:00 Monday - 22:00 Friday)
From Friday 21 February to Monday 25 May
Westbound closures - from 22:00 Friday until 05:00 Monday
- The A40 Westway will be closed westbound from Marylebone flyover junction to the A3320 Westway roundabout
- The road will open normally during the rest of the week (05:00 Monday - 22:00 Friday).
- There will be no closures on these bank holiday weekends: 18-21 April (Easter), 2-5 May, 23-26 May

Diversion routes and local roads will be extremely busy during the closures.

- A406 North Circular

Buses
- No buses use the A40
- Expect delays and increased journey times on buses that use local roads
- There may be disruption and longer gaps between buses on the following services: 70, 72, 94, 148, 218, 220, 266, 272, 283, 414, 440, C1, 13, 23, and 414
Westfield White City Shopping Centre
Westfield White City Shopping Centre is open as usual during the closures.
Use local public transport or walk or cycle where possible.
Tube and rail
These Tube and rail stations are nearby:
- Shepherd's Bush (Central line and London Overground)
- Wood Lane (Hammersmith & City and Circle lines)
Buses
Buses stop directly outside Westfield White City.
Cycling
There is cycle parking at Westfield. Find cycle parking
There are multiple Santander Cycles docking stations in Shepherd's Bush and White City.
Many residential areas are within a 30 minute cycle from White City:
- Hammersmith to White City is a 9 minute cycle (Santander Cycles available)
- Earls Court to White City is an 18 minute cycle (Santander Cycles available)
- Paddington to White City is a 21 minute cycle (Santander Cycles available)
Driving
- You will be able to drive to Westfield White City during the closures
- Roads surrounding the shopping centre will be busy and journey times will be longer
