Croydon and Sutton bus changes

Routes 455, 166, 312 and S4

Route 455

Route 455 will be withdrawn. Use alternative bus routes.

Between Wallington and Roundshaw, Wilson's School via Foresters Drive use existing route 154.

Between Roundshaw, Wilson's School and Waddon Marsh Sainsbury's use newly extended route S4.

Between Waddon Marsh Sainsbury's and West Croydon use tram services.

Between Croydon town centre and Purley Cross Tesco via Pampisford Road use newly re-routed 166 or existing route 405

Between Croydon town centre and Old Lodge Lane via Brighton Road and Purley Cross Tesco use newly extended route 312.

To northbound stops on Pampisford Road between Purley Cross Tesco and Swan & Sugar Loaf use route 312 to stop W at Brighton Road, opposite Purley Cross Tesco. Wait at the same stop for routes 166 or 405.

From southbound stops on Pampisford Road between Swan & Sugar Loaf and Purley Cross Tesco use route 166 or 405 to stop U outside Purley Cross Tesco. Walk to stop T and use newly extended route 312.

Route 312

Route 312 will be extended and will no longer terminate at South Croydon bus garage.

Instead, buses on this route will run between Norwood Junction and Old Lodge Lane via Brighton Road and Purley Cross Tesco. This is to help replace route 455, which will be withdrawn.

Route 166

Route 166 will be re-routed between South Croydon, Swan and Sugar Loaf and Purley Cross Tesco and will no longer serve stops on Brighton Road.

Route 166 will run via Pampisford Road and Haling Park Road instead. This will help replace route 455, which will be withdrawn.

Use alternative bus routes:

Between South Croydon Swan and Sugar Loaf and Purley Cross Tesco use newly extended route 312, or existing routes 60, 407 or 466.

To northbound stops on Brighton Road between Purley Cross Tesco and Swan & Sugar Loaf use route 166 to stop W at Brighton Road, opposite Purley Cross Tesco. Wait at the same stop for routes 60, 312 or 466.

From southbound stops on Brighton Road between Swan & Sugar Loaf and Purley Cross Tesco use route 60 to stop U outside Purley Cross Tesco. Wait at the same stop for newly re-routed 166.

Alternatively, use route 312 or 466 to stop T outside Purley Cross Tesco. Walk to stop U and use newly re-routed 166.

For Purley War Memorial Hospital use newly re-routed 166 for the Pampisford Road entrance or newly extended route 312 for the Brighton Road entrance.

Route S4

Route S4 will no longer run between Sutton Marshall's Road and St Helier station. The first and last stop will be stop D at Marshall's Road in Sutton town centre.

Between Sutton town centre and St Helier station use new route S2.

Towards St Helier station use route S4 to stop W at St Nicholas Way. Wait at the same stop for new route S2.

Towards Roundshaw use route S2 to stop I on Throwley Way. Wait at the same stop for route S4.

Route S4 will also be extended from Roundshaw Wilson's School to Waddon Marsh Sainsbury's via Plough Lane, Beddington Lane Asda and Purley Way. This will help replace route 455, which will be withdrawn.

We're also introducing a new Sunday service on this route.

Buses on route S4 will run:

• Every 20 minutes (instead of every 30 minutes) on Monday to Saturday daytimes
• Every 30 minutes in the evenings and all day on Sundays

Routes 470, S2, S3 and S4

Route 470

Route 470 will no longer serve stops between Sutton station and Epsom.

Instead, buses will terminate at Sutton station. The first and last stop will be stop AD at The Quadrant.

For travel between Sutton station and Epsom, use alternative bus routes:

• Towards Colliers Wood use new route S2 to stop W at St Nicholas Way. Wait at the same stop for route 470
• Towards Epsom use route 470 to stop I on Throwley Way. Wait at the same stop for new route S2

Route 470 will also be rerouted between Sutton Common Road and Sutton Green via Marlborough Road, Dibdin Road, Stayton Road and Hallmead Road.

It will not serve hail and ride sections of Sutton Common Road or Angel Hill. Use newly re-routed S3 instead.

Route S2

We're introducing a new bus route S2 between St Helier station and Epsom Clock Tower.

Buses will run via St Helier Hospital, Sutton town centre, Sutton station, Holland Avenue, Cheam station and Ewell East station.

This will also help replace route 470, which will no longer serve stops in this area.

Buses on this route will run:

• Every 20 minutes on Monday to Saturday daytimes
• Every 30 minutes during the evenings and all day on Sundays

Route S3

Route S3 will be re-routed between Sutton Common Road and Sutton Green via Sutton Common Road and Angel Hill.

It will not serve hail and ride sections of Marlborough Road, Dibdin Road, Stayton Road and Hallmead Road. Use newly re-routed 470 instead.

Routes 434 and 439

Route 434

Route 434 will no longer serve stops between Purley Cross and Whyteleafe South via Northwood Avenue, Oaks Road or Valley Road.

Instead, buses will be re-routed via Godstone Road.

For southbound hail and ride sections of Northwood Avenue, Oaks Road and Valley Road use 434 to Purley town centre. Alight at stop M and wait at the same stop for new route 439.

For northbound hail and ride sections of Northwood Avenue, Oaks Road and Valley Road use new route 439.

Route 434 will also be extended and will no longer terminate at Whyteleafe South:

• It will run between Whyteleafe South and Caterham via Wapses Lodge Roundabout and Croydon Road
• The first and last stop will be the stop outside Caterham station

More changes to route 434 between Purley station and Kenley via Higher Drive will happen as soon as mitigations are complete. We'll update this page with any changes.

Route 439

We're introducing a new bus route 439 between Waddon Marsh tram stop and Whyteleafe South.

Buses will run via Purley Way, Purley town centre, Northwood Avenue, Kenley station and Valley Road.

Buses on this route will run every 30 minutes between 07:00 and 20:00 every day.

As part of these changes, the types of vehicles will change on some routes. This means the total distance served by electric vehicles will increase.
