You can use contactless to travel on bus, Tube, tram, DLR, London Overground, TfL Rail, Emirates Air Line, River Bus and most National Rail services in London.
Contactless is accepted on all buses in and
just outside London, showing the red roundel except:
- The heritage
buses which run some journeys on parts of route 15
- Routes 402 and
Contactless is accepted on all tram services.
Tube, DLR, TfL Rail and London Overground
Contactless is accepted on all services in Zones 1-9 and to Watford Junction and Shenfield.
Contactless is accepted on:
All suburban trains stopping in Zones 1-9 and on journeys to:
- Chafford Hundred
- Watford Junction
- Hertford East
- St Margarets
- Rye House
- Gatwick Airport
But not on:
- Heathrow Express
- Heathrow Connect services between Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow
- Any journey starting or finishing outside the pay as you go area
With a contactless and Oyster account, you can see your journey and payment history, get email alerts if there's an issue with your contactless payment card that might stop you from using it to travel, and apply for refunds for incomplete journeys.

Contactless is not accepted on East Midlands Trains, Grand Central, Hull Trains, Virgin Trains, or Virgin Trains East Coast services.
Emirates Air Line
Use pay as you go by touching your contactless payment card or other contactless device on the yellow card reader at the ticket gate.
MBNA Thames Clippers River Buses
You can pay as you go by touching your contactless payment card on a yellow card reader at River Bus piers.
You cannot use contactless to pay as you go on River Tours.
