How do I apply?

Income Support or Employment and Support Allowance

If you're on Income Support or Employment and Support Allowance, download the Bus & Tram Discount scheme application form below. Once you've filled in your form, you need to take it to a post office in London.

You need to take:

  • Two full face, passport-type photographs
  • Proof of identity
  • Your benefit entitlement letter

Full requirements of what you need to take are explained in the Bus & Tram Discount scheme leaflet. The post office will check your application then give you your photocard.

Jobseeker's Allowance

To apply you must ask for a special application form at your Jobcentre Plus branch at your 13-week interview. Complete the form with Jobcentre Plus staff and they'll validate your application.

Once it's been validated you can take it to a post office with both of the following:

  • Two full face passport-type photographs
  • Proof of identity

Are you claiming Universal Credit?

    Using your photocard

To get the Bus & Tram Discount, you'll have to get an Oyster card (if you don't already have one), register it, and then have your discount concession added.

Just go to any Oyster Ticket Stop or Tube station and ask the staff to put your discount concession onto your Oyster card. They can also register it at the same time.

Once you've got your photocard and Oyster card, please remember to:

    • Carry your photocard and Oyster card together at all times when you travel
    • Touch in on the yellow card readers at the start of every journey

You cannot give your Bus & Tram Discount photocard, or Oyster card, to anyone else to use.

Your photocard is valid for six months.
