You get Gold Card discounts when you:
If you buy your Annual Travelcard or annual season ticket online, your Gold Record Card will be sent to you. It usually takes a few days to arrive and you are not entitled to Gold Card discounts until you have it.
With the Annual Gold Card discount set on your Oyster card you get 1/3 discount on off-peak pay as you go fares and off-peak daily caps on Tube, DLR, London Overground, TfL Rail and most National Rail services in London.

Please note that children aged 5-10 travel free on all rail services in London where pay as you go is accepted, if they have a 5-10 Zip Oyster photocard.

The Gold Card holder must travel with the group at all times.
When buying discounted Day Travelcards for accompanying adults or children for travel within Zones 1-6, your Annual Season ticket must cover the journey you intend to make. If it doesn't, then you must buy a ticket before you travel.
