About the LEZ

The LEZ operates 24-hours-a-day, every day of the year, including weekends and public and Bank Holidays.

Charging days run from midnight to midnight. So if you drive within the LEZ between 23:30 and 01:00 the next day, you need to pay for 2 days.

Vehicles parked in the zone but not driving are not subject to the LEZ requirements for that day.

Remember, the LEZ isn't the same as the central London Congestion Charge zone. The Congestion Charge applies from 07:00-18:00 Monday to Friday, excluding public and Bank Holidays. If you drive within the Congestion Charge zone during these times you will have to pay the Congestion Charge, even if you meet the LEZ emissions standards or have paid the Daily LEZ Charge.

Use the links below to find out if your vehicle is affected by the LEZ and if your journey takes you into the zone.

LEZ charges and discounts

If your vehicle is affected by the LEZ and you intend to use it in the zone you will need to pay the Daily LEZ Charge. This is £200 for lorries, buses and coaches and £100 for large vans and minibuses.

If you believe that the details we hold for your vehicle are incorrect or insufficient to calculate the correct charge you can register the vehicle with us.

To register a vehicle with us you will need to provide evidence that it meets the LEZ standards.

LEZ showman's discount

If you own a specially constructed or modified vehicle used for a travelling show, it may be eligible for a discount on the Daily LEZ Charge. Find out more and set up a London Road User Charging account before applying for the LEZ showman's discount.

Specially constructed or modified Showman’s Vehicles that are registered for the 100 per cent discount from the Low Emission Zone also receive a 100 per cent discount from the T – Charge. Once your vehicle is successfully registered we will automatically apply the 100 per cent discount from the T – Charge to it. You will still need to pay the Congestion Charge to drive in the Congestion Charge zone but no T- Charge value will be added to it. For more information on the T- Charge go to tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/t-charge.
