"We hope this festive offer will bring some Christmas cheer to everyone while supporting the fantastic work the Railway Children does"
  • Package includes priority boarding with passengers met by festive characters and a goody bag
  • Festive decorations will be on display at themed cable car terminals throughout December

Christmas is a time for families, friends and loved ones and this year the Emirates Air Line cable car is supporting children who need help and support by raising funds for the charity Railway Children.

To support this fundraising, a festive cabin will launch on Saturday 4 December, helping customers make the most of the festive period while raising much needed funds to help children living on the streets in the UK, India and East Africa.

The festive cabin offer is designed to help customers get into the Christmas spirit with a warm welcome at the Christmas-themed terminal buildings from a festive character and priority boarding to one of the specially wrapped private cabins for a non-stop round trip soaring high above the River Thames.  Everyone purchasing this premium ticket also receives a goody bag and a big thank you from everyone at the charity Railway Children.

The festive cabins are available at weekends throughout December and throughout the week during the school holidays from 20 December until 1 January.  A donation is made to the charity Railway Children for every festive cabin experience sold.

The charity Railway Children fights for children at risk of abuse and exploitation on the streets in the UK as well as in East Africa and India. Their work in this country focuses on young, vulnerable people finding themselves in danger in and around the transport network, working closely with the British Transport Police to keep them safe.

The Emirates Air Line is the UK's only urban cable car and has seen more than one million customers take a trip across the River Thames so far in 2021.

With more than 13 million journeys since the cable car opened in 2012, it remains a firm favourite and continues to be one of the most highly rated things to do in London.  Social media fans also rate it as one of the most 'instagrammable' spots in London featuring heavily on both Instagram and TikTok. TfL is currently seeking a new sponsor for the cable car when the 10-year sponsorship with Emirates ends in June 2022. The cable car is funded entirely by sponsorship and its own fares revenue.

Josh Crompton, TfL's Head of the Cable Car, said:

'We hope this festive offer will bring some Christmas cheer to everyone while supporting the fantastic work the Railway Children does. We have seen continued success of the Emirates Air Line cable car throughout the year, so we are sure our customers will love this offer.

'Next year we say a farewell to our current sponsors Emirates but look forward to welcoming a new, ambitious and innovative partner.'

Rob Capener, Director of Marketing and Fundraising at Railway Children, said:

'The support we receive from TfL and their workforce makes an incredible difference to our work with some of the UK's most vulnerable children. It really is heart-warming to see the TfL team supporting us in such a creative and festive way, which will not only raise vital funds but increase awareness of the children who need our support at such an important time of year.'
